Last Thursday, we hosted one of our favorite annua Last Thursday, we hosted one of our favorite annual traditions: the API Council’s Holiday Luncheon! Given all their hard work in 2024 serving San Francisco’s API community, we wanted to dedicate this final gathering in 2024 to be a space where the tireless leaders of our member nonprofits are celebrated and could appreciate the community of other nonprofits they are a part of. The unity and relationships reinforced at this luncheon will fuel API Council’s heightened efforts in 2025 to build the voice, visibility, and influence of APIs in San Francisco. Keep an eye out for updates in the new year! A heartfelt thank you to community leaders David Lei and Buck Gee for making this luncheon possible through their generosity. Special shoutout to @fangrestaurantsf for giving us a phenomenal feast and @sfccsc for donating delicious cookies.

But API residents have historically been overlooked and misunderstood. Over 42% of API residents in San Francisco still live in poverty facing barriers to housing, food security, and equitable services. API Council member nonprofits work tirelessly to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate support - from food assistance to senior care to job training - to the city’s API community. @kimochi.incorporated’s Silver Bells Craft & Foo @kimochi.incorporated’s Silver Bells Craft & Food Fair is one of their longest running, most popular holiday events featuring a large array of Asian-inspired artisan handcrafts and food items. Just in time for the holidays, find homemade gifts and snacks, and enter into hourly drawings to win items donated by vendors. While shopping, enjoy Japanese & Chinese-inspired favorites from the chefs at Kiri in San Francisco. D1 Supervisor @connie_chan_sf came to the API Coun D1 Supervisor @connie_chan_sf came to the API Council’s monthly member meeting last week! She shared valuable updates on the city’s budget and took the time to thoughtfully answer our questions. Thank you @connie_chan_sf for your insights and support! The meeting didn’t stop there! API Council members enjoyed a tour of @cyc_sf’s new Richmond Community Hub, a space dedicated to serving and empowering the Richmond community. We also welcomed BART Police Chief Kevin Franklin and BART Assistant General Manager of External Affairs Rodd Lee who presented on BART Safety with BART Board Director Janice Li. Thank you to all the speakers and city officials who joined us! Bringing together API community leaders and government officials is at the heart of the API Council’s mission.
The API Council was honored to join other communit The API Council was honored to join other community leaders from San Francisco in celebrating CA Assemblymember @philting on Wednesday for his 12 years of service at the CA State Assembly! Assemblymember Phil Ting’s efforts in Sacramento secured state funding for the API Equity Fund, which has awarded $29.5 million to 11 organizations serving the city’s API community so far, and secured state funding for individual API Council members including @selfhelpelderly, @rams_sf, @edgeonthesquare, @chsamuseum, and many more. He also supported projects across the city important to API communities, including renovating the Japantown Peace Plaza, and authored bills that helped address API hate, including AB1947. Assemblymember Phil Ting was also the previous Executive Director of API Council member @asianlawcaucus! For all of these efforts and more, the API Council awarded Assemblymember Phil Ting with our “API Advocacy Champion Award” at our 10th anniversary celebration in May. Thank you so much Assemblymember Phil Ting for your dedication to San Francisco’s API communities! We’re excited to see how you serve our communities next.
